Water Security Needs Water Filter

Water security is a defining challenge for society in the 21st century. Drinking water, wastewater, and storm water utility (Water Sector) owners and operators have a long and distinguished history of protecting public health and the environment. As the world-leading manufacturer for portable water treatment (outdoor and household), Diercon has been in this field for several years.

But what does “water security” mean? The absence of a definition undermines progress in international forums. Marking World Water Day at UN Headquarters in New York, a common working definition was published, forged by UN and international experts from around the world.

UN-Water, the United Nations’ inter-agency coordination mechanism for all water-related issues, says water security should be defined as:
“The capacity of a population to safeguard sustainable access to adequate quantities of and acceptable quality water for sustaining livelihoods, human well-being, and socio-economic development, for ensuring protection against water-borne pollution and water-related disasters, and for preserving ecosystems in a climate of peace and political stability.”

Following the events of September 11, 2001 and subsequent natural disasters, all levels of American government, as well as the private sector, are partnering with the Water Sector to prevent, respond, and recover from natural disasters and manmade malevolent threats. Additionally, since increased resilience is a major objective of all critical infrastructures, understanding and appreciating Water Sector interdependencies is essential. All sectors are vulnerable if Water Sector service is compromised and the consequences are not just related to public health and economics, but to the nation’s psychological well-being and confidence in governance. Water insecurity, therefore, leads to cascading political, social, economic and environmental consequences, the brief says.

As an enterprise, Diercon take our social responsibilityactively. In order to protect the "water security", Diercon will continue to make our efforts to provide more safe drinking water for people.
